George Russell Tillman, 65, of Pine Bluff, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at UAMS Medical Center.
Born March 12, 1948, in Fort Smith, Ark., he was a son of the late E. W. “Red” Tillman, Jr. and Willie Maude Shelton Tillman. He was reared and received his early education in Baton Rouge, La.
In 1967, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1969.
Once he returned from his tour of duty, he attended and graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University, earning his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology.
Mr. Tillman had several Engineering and Machinist positions in Louisiana but in 1979 he accepted a position at Entergy of Arkansas. He began work with Entergy at White Bluff Steam Electric Station as a Control Technician and also worked as a Plant Electrician. After a little more than twenty years he retired in 2000. He was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Tillman, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; his brother, E.W. Tillman, III, of Texas; his sisters, Annie Rebecca Gauci and husband, John, of Metairie, Louisiana and Goldie Kelly and husband, Fran, of Pine Bluff; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 25, 2013 in Bellwood Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Walter Van Zandt Windsor officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Friends may sign the online register at www.ralphrobinsonandson.com.
