GALESBURG, Ill. — Curtis Lee Singleton, 63, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 4:03 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 in the emergency room of OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born December 22, 1949 in Pine Bluff, Ark., the son of James and Ionie (Boyd) Singleton. He married Alma Buie on December 22, 1970, in Pine Bluff.
He is survived by his wife, Alma; a son, Victor Maurice (and Jacqueline Corrine) Singleton of Galesburg; a daughter, Toya Sherrard of Stone Mountain, Ga.; four grandchildren; a sister, Cynthia Williams of Houston, Texas; and his father-in-law, Lenon Buie Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Percy Singleton Sr.; and his mother-in-law, Curtistine Buie.
Curtis was raised and educated in Pine Bluff, Ark., where he graduated from Southeast High School in 1967. He served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1973, stationed in Germany. Curtis was a brakeman and welder for the railroad in Arkansas for many years. He and Alma moved to Galesburg in 1989 when he transferred to Burlington Northern Railroad and continued to work until his retirement.
Curtis enjoyed coaching youth sports, especially the TANZA Wildcats boys little league football team in Pine Bluff.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel with military rites. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
