Cody Massey


Cody Odell Massey, age 93, of Pine Bluff passed away Friday, July 5, 2013. He was born May 9, 1920, in Jones, La., the son of the late Samuel Leroy and Bertha Williamson Massey. He received his early and high school education at Kilbourne, La. As a young man, he worked with his father on the family farm while surviving the Great Flood of 1927 and the Great Depression. In 1941, he enlisted in the United States Army, and served with the 90th Bomber Group Jolly Rogers in World War II, as an airplane and engine mechanic. He was stationed in the South Pacific, Australia and the Hawaiian Islands.

After the war, he became an accomplished carpenter and self-employed building contractor for over 60 years and since 1956 constructed a number of homes in Pine Bluff and surrounding areas

He was an active member of the American Legion, a Mason and a Shriner, where he served as a member of the Sahara Shrine Temple clown patrol for many years.

He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church of Kilbourne, La.

At the age of 89, he had the opportunity to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC as part of the Arkansas Honor Flight along with other fellow veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, and a great-grandson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara, of the home; his son, Steven Massey (Pat) of Conway; his daughters, Beverly Bridwell (Benny) of Rogers, Linda Jackson (James) of England, Connie Massey (Joyce) of Conway, and Denise Hufford (Jim) of Pine Bluff; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one brother and five sisters.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Arkansas Veterans Cemetery, 1501 W. Maryland Ave., North Little Rock by Ralph Robinson & Son Directors with Reverend Robert Cossey officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, July 9, from 6-8 p.m. at Robinson’s.
