Blanche Scull

LITTLE ROCK — Blanche Downs Scull, one of five children to the union of Charlie and Elmyra Bragg Downs, entered into eternal rest, October 1, 2012. She was born in Lester, Ouachita County, on March 7, 1926. As an adult, she united with Damascus Missionary Baptist Church, was baptized by Rev. J.R. Singleton, where she served faithfully as could until her health failed her, and she moved to Little Rock. “Mother Scull” as she was affectionately known, was an active Deaconess of the Church and humbly did whatever was asked of her, and her husband, Deacon Booker Terry Scull, Sr.

She attended the Mount Moriah Baptist School of Lester, and yet, like so many her age was unable to complete her own education, but was able to realize her dream of an advanced education for all six of her children. Dedicated as she was to her role, “Mother Scull” faithfull served as mother and wife in the truest sense of these words.

She was married to Booker Terry Scull, Sr. and to this union six children were born. He preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death are her parents, Charlie and Elymra Braggs Downs; and infant sister; sister, Elnora Thomas; sisters, Leberta Burnell; and sister, Beatrice Thomas; and one stepdaughter, Juanita Amos.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Robert Lee Scull (Levita) of Little Rock, Roy Lee Scull (Tammy) of Arlington, Texas; two stepsons, Charles O. Scull of Gary, Ind., and Booker Terry (Velma) Scull, Jr. of Milwaukee, Wis.; four daughters, Betty J. Scull and Lillie M. Scull of Little Rock, Floristeen Scull of DeSoto, Texas, and Catherine Glymph (Leroy) of Pine Bluff; two stepdaughters, Sammie Lou Ervin and Rosie L. Brand of East Chicago, Ind.; four grandsons, Michael James Sargent, Brandon L. Glymph, Nicholas T. Scull, and Christian T. Scull; one granddaughter, Adrian Nicole Scull; and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Damascus Missionary Baptist Church with the Reverend Lavara Henry officiating. Visitation will be Friday, October 5, 2012, from 6-7 p.m., at the P.K. Miller Mortuary. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Cemetery by the P.K. Miller Mortuary.
