GREENVILLE, NC. — Mrs. Barbara Williams Turner, 73, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at her home in Greenville, NC.
A graveside funeral service was conducted in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park, February 20, 2013.
Mrs. Turner, a native of Pine Bluff, Ark., was the daughter of C. W. and Fern Moseley Williams of Morehead City, NC. During the school years her family moved from Pine Bluff, Ark. to Fordyce, Ark., Effingham, Ill., and to Morehead City, NC in 1954. Her father came to Morehead City as Vice-President and General Manager of the Beaufort, Morehead City and Snow Hill Waterworks.
Barbara graduated from Morehead City High School in 1957 and was listed as one of the “best dressed” in the 1957 Yearbook. Barbara enrolled in East Carolina University in 1957 and met her future husband, Karl Turner, during her freshman year at a campus dance. They became engaged in 1958 and were married in The First Baptist Church, Morehead City, on August 16, 1959.
Barbara made Greenville her home and worked at Dupont for eight years, before starting her family. After being a “stay at home mother” for fifteen years, she began work at Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church, retiring as office manager in 2001. She provided excellent support and assistance to 10 pastors over her 19 years of service to Jarvis Church. An active member of Jarvis Church for more than 50 years, she loved her participation in the Women’s Circle, choir and hand bell choir.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by an infant daughter, May 27, 1969 and a son, Kerry Edward Turner, January 26, 2006.
She is survived by: her husband of 53 years, best friend and college sweetheart, Karl Edward Turner; daughter, Karla Turner Haugh and husband, Andy of Wilmington , NC.
