MOUNTAIN VIEW — Alice Marie Townsend, 90, of Mountain View, previously from Pine Bluff, passed away Monday, April 22, 2013.
Alice was born in Lake Village, Ark., on August 9, 1922 to Henry E. and Georgia Ann Allen. She spent her childhood in Reydel, Ark., and graduated with honors from Pine Bluff High School. She attended Arkansas A & M in Monticello and taught school in McGehee and Cornerstone, Ark.
Alice married William H. “Dub” Townsend, Jr. in 1944; they lived in Cornerstone until his retirement in 1976 when they moved to Pine Bluff.
Alice took great pride in being a homemaker and was known for her cooking and sewing but her greatest loves in her life were her family and her church. She was a long-time member of Altheimer United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.
In 2001, she moved to Mountain View, Ark., to be near her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, William H. “Dub” Townsend, Jr.; her parents, Henry E. and Georgia Ann Allen; a sister Dorothy Phillips and a brother, Willie L. Allen.
She is survived by two sons, William H. “Dub” Townsend, III, of Springfield, Mo., and Stanley A. Townsend, of Mountain View, Ark.; five grandchildren, William Eric Townsend, Jason M. Townsend, Laura S. Townsend, Catherine A. Townsend and Caroline W. Townsend; two great-grandsons, Andrew and Joey Townsend; and one sister, Charlene Wells.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Graceland Cemetery with Reverend George Mitchell officiating by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors. Friends may sign the online register at www.ralphrobinsonandson.com.
