Albert L. Cook, 77, of Pine Bluff, AR died at JRMC on Saturday, July 13, 2013.
Mr. Cook was born September 3, 1935 in Pine Bluff, Ark., son of the late Charlie Cook and Pearl Washington Cook.
He attended New Hope and Merrill schools before enrolling in the United States Army in 1953. In 1958, he married Erma Tinsley and they relocated to Battle Creek, Mich.
Mr. Cook worked as a licensed electronics technician for Grand Trunk Western Railroad for 27 years and served a term as elected president of his union, IBEW - International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1091. In 1980, he earned an Associate Degree from Kellogg Community College. After retiring, they returned to Pine Bluff where he earned a certification in Tax Preparation; worked as a licensed State of Arkansas Independent Insurance Agent; a U.S. Department of Commerce Census Enumerator; and enrolled in study at SEARK. He also proudly served alongside his wife as an Election Official for Jefferson County.
Brother Cook was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. He proudly served on the Board of Directors of the Joy Community Church and spent years as a musician singing and playing the guitar on numerous programs at various churches in Battle Creek and Pine Bluff.
He is survived by two sons- David Cook of Detroit, Mich. and Albert Stanley Cook (Tammi) of Crown Point, Ind.; two daughters- Sharon Cook Hogan of Charlotte, N.C. and Janice Cook Johnson (Gregory) of Wixom, Mich.; six brothers: Sylvester, Chester, Eddie (Helen), Curtis (Juanita), Lewis (Lisa), and William; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Joy Community Church by Pastor Frederic Roberts. Burial will be in Forrest Lawn Memorial Garden by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
Visitation will be Friday from 3-7 p.m. with a family hour from 5-7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home.
The body will lie in state at the church from 9:45 a.m. until service time.
