Miss Agatha Frances Holmes, 87, of Pine Bluff, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 at her home.
Born May 27, 1925 in Sikeston, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Reverend Charles W. and Mayme Long Holmes. She was reared and received her early education in Overton, Texas graduating from high school there. After high school, she graduated from East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas. She later earned her Masters Degree at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Miss Holmes taught school for 49 years. She started her career in Texas, then in 1949, she moved to Pine Bluff and began teaching in the Dollarway School District. She touched many lives in those years, some of her closest friends being former students.
She was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Arkansas Teachers Association, National Education Association and Arkansas Retired Teachers Association.
Miss Holmes has no immediate survivors. She is survived by wonderful caregivers, loving and kind close friends and a caring church family.
Funeral service was held 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 21, 2013 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend Howard Loetscher officiating. Burial followed at Graceland Cemetery.
