LITTLE ROCK — Three Arkansas schools are among 286 named National Blue Ribbon Schools, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced Tuesday.
Arkansas schools to be recognized Nov. 18 and 19 in Washington ceremonies are Ellen Smith Elementary School in the Conway School District, Bergman Elementary School in the Bergman School District and Central Park-Morning Star Elementary School in the Bentonville School District.
“We are extremely proud of these three high-performing schools in Arkansas that were selected for this national honor,” state Education Commissioner Tom Kimbrell said in a news release. “They serve as statewide models of success.”
All three received the Exemplary High Performing designation, which means they have Reading/English Language Arts and Mathematics test scores that rank among the top 15 percent in the state, according to a state department of education news release.
The award honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools whose students achieve at very high levels or have made significant progress and helped close gaps in achievement, especially among disadvantaged and minority students.
