LITTLE ROCK — A man was taken into custody early Thursday after he climbed over a fence and broke into a vehicle on the grounds of the Governor’s Mansion, state police said.
Ramon Taylor, 32, of Little Rock, was charged with criminal trespass and breaking and entering of a vehicle. He was being held in the Pulaski County jail Thursday afternoon in lieu of a $3,000 bond.
Matt DeCample, spokesman for Gov. Mike Beebe said the incident occurred about 5:30 a.m. and the man was taken into custody by the governor’s security detail without incident. The man was questioned by state police investigators and later charged.
“He never gained admittance to any of the buildings,” DeCample said.
State police spokesman Bill Sadler said the man “entered into a vehicle that was parked on the property,” and that the vehicle was not state-owned.
Neither Sadler nor DeCample would identify the owner of the vehicle.
Sadler also declined to answer questions about the man’s motive, what he told police when he was interviewed or whether he has a criminal record. The spokesman said state police policy is not to comment about an ongoing investigation.
