Former state senator dies


LITTLE ROCK — Former state Sen. Bill Walters of Greenwood died Tuesday, the Senate announced.

Walters died of pancreatic cancer. He was 69.

He was elected to the Senate as a Republican in 1982 and served 18 years. A lawyer, Walters also previously served as a Sebastian County deputy prosecutor, Greenwood city attorney and as municipal court judge in Charleston.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Walters, also a former legislator, and three grown children.
