Author James Patterson funds UA scholarship


LITTLE ROCK — Best-selling mystery and children’s book author James Patterson has established a scholarship fund at the University of Arkansas for students majoring in elementary or secondary education, the university announced Wednesday.

Patterson gave the university $48,000 to establish the James Patterson Teacher Education Scholarship Fund. His gift will provide eight scholarships of $6,000 each.

Patterson has funded similar scholarships at Vanderbilt, Michigan State University, the University of Wisconsin, Howard University and Appalachian State University, the university said.

His books include several series for adults and children, including the Alex Cross detective series, the Lindsay Boxer and the Women’s Murder Club series, Maximum Ride, Daniel X and Witch & Wizard. Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry have portrayed Cross in movies.
