Southeast Arkansas highway contracts awarded


The Arkansas State Highway Commission has opened bids for improvements to roadways in several Southeast Arkansas counties, including more than $30 million in work on Highway 167.

Cleveland and Dallas counties

McGeorge Contracting Co. Inc. of Pine Bluff was awarded a contract at $33,406,105 to widen approximately 5 miles of Highway 167 between Highway 273 north of Fordyce in Dallas County and Peters Road in Cleveland County.

It includes drainage structures, guardrails and a concrete barrier wall. This is part of an overall plan to widen Highway 167 from Interstate 530 to El Dorado. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete in 2016.

Jefferson County

Three projects were awarded in Jefferson County, according to County Judge Dutch King and state highway officials.

Pine Bluff Sand & Gravel Co. of Pine Bluff was awarded a contract of $413,372 to resurface 3.7 miles on County Road 53 and 54 (Rob Roy Road) from Highway 63 to Highway 88. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting, and should be complete by early this summer.

A second project will resurface 1.69 miles of Highway 81 from Highway 65 to Fairfield Road, east of Pine Bluff. Redstone Construction Group Inc. of Little Rock was awarded the contract at $422,688. Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting, and should be complete by early fall.

A third project will resurface 5.9 miles of Highway 65 northbound between the Union Pacific Railroad overpass and Linwood, east of Pine Bluff. Redstone Construction was also awarded this contract at $629,637. Work is to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting, and should be finished by fall.

Bradley and Cleveland counties

The highway commission has opened bids for improvements to a roadway in Bradley and Cleveland counties.

The purpose of this project is to resurface 9.2 miles of Highway 63 north and south of the Saline River north of Warren. Pine Bluff Sand & Gravel was awarded the contract at $940,338. The work is slated to start in two to four weeks, weather permitting, and should be done by early fall.
