Two killed in traffic accidents

A White Hall man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Dollarway Road early Friday morning.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Ricky Brooks Jr., 24, who was pronounced dead by a doctor in the Emergency Room at Jefferson Regional Medical Center at 2:27 a.m.

Police Lt. JoAnn Bates said Brooks was a passenger in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am that was involved in the accident at about 2 a.m. at Dollarway Road and Norman Street.

The other vehicle was listed as a 2002 GMC Yukon.

Bates said the driver of the Pontiac, whose name was not immediately available, was taken to JRMC where he was being treated for what were described as “non-life threatening” injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, whose name was also not immediately available, and passengers were all treated and released.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation and no other information was available Friday afternoon.

Wednesday night, a Rison man was killed in a two-vehicle accident south of Pine Bluff in Cleveland County.

A preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police said a vehicle driven by Darren Snow, 23, had been pulled out of a ditch and Snow was attempting to make a u-turn northbound from the southbound shoulder of U.S. 63 when the 1987 Toyota truck he was driving pulled out in front of a 2010 Mack Truck driven by Larry Williams, 43, of White Hall and struck Williams’ truck.

Trooper Greg Rowland reported that Williams was not injured in the accident, which was reported at 11:44 p.m.

Snow, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, the report said.

The death was the 484th reported on the state’s highways so far this year.
