Two Pine Bluff men were arrested Saturday after a traffic stop when police found codeine in their vehicle.
Bruce Lowe, 32, and Leonard Walters, 29, were in a vehicle that police stopped at Harding Avenue and Main Street at 3 a.m. because the headlights were not on.
Vice and Narcotics Detective April Tirado reported that officers noticed a strong odor of burning marijuana when they approached the vehicle and saw a “reddish orange medicine bottle” that contained Codeine between the legs of Lowe, who was the driver.
Three additional bottles were found in the door on the front passenger side and front floorboard and one more bottle in the back floorboard where Walters was sitting.
When the men were taken to the adult detention center, a deputy searched Lowe and found a clear plastic bag containing a green vegetable substance that field tested positive for marijuana and weighed 23.5 grams in his left shoe.
Lowe also had $676 cash in his pocket, Tirado said in the report.
Records at the prosecutor’s office indicated Walters is currently on parole and Lowe is on probation.
Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $25,000 cash-only bond for Walters after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance and a $25,000 cash bond for Lowe after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance and with furnishing prohibited articles.
A third person who was in the vehicle was released pending further investigation.
