Trooper reports finding cocaine after traffic stop

A small amount of cocaine reportedly was found in a vehicle that an Arkansas State Police trooper stopped Dec. 29.

Bobby Gross, 47, told Cpl. Jeff Preston his driver’s license had been suspended for DWI, then gave Preston permission to search the vehicle, Preston said in a probable cause affidavit.

Preston reported that he was traveling south on Gib Anderson Road when a vehicle passed him going north, and he could see through his rear-view mirror that the license plate light on the other vehicle was not working.

After stopping the vehicle and getting permission to search, Preston reported finding a small plastic bag containing 0.1 grams of cocaine in the driver’s side door pocket.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $10,000 bond for Gross after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance.

Kearney appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Gross, and told him to come back to court Feb. 13.
