Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

After stopping a vehicle for speeding in the Dollarway area Tuesday afternoon, a Pine Bluff Police Detective got into a foot chase with the driver of the vehicle, then reportedly found drug paraphernalia along the path the chase had followed.

Detective Richard McCorvy reported that he chased Brandon George, 27, after George ran when McCorvy stopped his vehicle in the 6600 block of Calhoun Street.

McCorvy reported that he knew George because George worked at a business where McCorvy worked part time, and said he was able to apprehend George when George “fell into a thicket” while running behind a house.

Retracing the path the chase took, McCorvy reported finding a glass pipe with a residue of methamphetamine.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $10,000 bond for George after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of drug paraphernalia.

George also was charged with driving on a suspended driver’s license, fleeing on foot, and an active warrant, all misdemeanors.

Kearney appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent George, and told him to come back to court Feb. 13.
