A reported burglary in progress at a house on the east side of Pine Bluff on Monday resulted in the arrest of three men.
Markentois Smith, 19; David Reams, 20; and Cedric McDowell, 23, were located in the area of the reported burglary in the 1100 block of South Dakota Street.
During a court hearing Wednesday, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said the alleged victim told police he heard a knock at his door and when he went to answer it, there was no one there.
Detective Mike Sweeney said in a probable-cause affidavit that the suspects allegedly pulled a screen door open on the back porch, then opened a window that would not lock to gain entry to the house.
Kizer said the alleged victim told officers he saw two black males, one of whom had a gun and fired a shot at him before the men ran out the back door.
Sweeney said in the affidavit that Smith formerly lived in the house and would have known that the window would not lock.
Kizer said McDowell is on parole, Reams is on probation, and Smith has felony charges pending against him in Jefferson County Circuit Court.
Because of that, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth agree to Kizer’s request and set bond for the three men at $10,000 cash only.
They were also ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim until the case is settled.
The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent all three.
