Suspected cocaine seized, one arrested Wednesday

Just over 14 grams of suspected cocaine were seized Wednesday and one man was arrested when police vice and narcotics officers and the Tri-County Drug Task Force served a search warrant at a house in the 1100 block of East Seventh Avenue.

Task Force Investigator Danny Fletcher said in a probable cause affidavit that Rickey King, 28, was detained after officers forced their way in at 9:06 a.m.

During a court hearing Thursday, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said investigators found two bags of suspected cocaine inside the house, as well as cash and digital scales.

In his affidavit, Fletcher said the house where the warrant was served was directly across from a church.

At Kizer’s request, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $2,500 bond for King after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to records at the prosecutor’s office, King is on probation and has four drug-related charges pending against him

Bridgforth told King to come back to court May 9.
