Suspect accused in January assault

A Pine Bluff man was arrested Thursday after he reportedly broke into an apartment where his girlfriend lived and assaulted her in January.

Anthony Nelson, 22, allegedly kicked open the door of the apartment after the woman refused to open the door, Detective Jerry Lambert said in a probable cause affidavit.

Lambert reported that police were called to the apartment in the 4300 block of West 18th Ave., at 1:50 a.m., on Jan. 30, and when officers arrived, they found the door had been broken.

The female victim said Nelson had broken in and punched her, kicked her and threw a glass mug at her, Lambert said in the affidavit.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $15,000 bond for Nelson on Friday after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with residential burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree domestic battery.

Kearney ordered Nelson to have no contact with the alleged victim, and told him to come back to court March 29.
