Reported theft in progress calll ends in arrest

A reported theft in progress at a house in the 8400 block of U.S. 79 south Wednesday resulted in the arrest of a man who was allegedly trying to steal a boat.

Herbert Heinrich, 54, was found in the yard of the house and the boat was in the back of his truck, Sheriff’s Investigator Sgt. Mickey Buffkin said in a probable cause affidavit.

Buffkin said in the affidavit that the owner of the boat confronted Heinrich, and when deputies arrived, they found a small quantity of suspected marijuana in the front seat of Heinrich’s vehicle.

The value of the boat was listed at $1,200 to $1,500, Buffkin said in the affidavit.

During a court hearing Friday, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said Heinrich has a pending charge of terroristic threatening that was filed earlier this year.

Because of the pending charge, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $25,000 cash-only bond for Heinrich after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with theft of property.

Heinrich said he would hire his own attorney.
