Reported domestic disturbance ends in arrest

A reported domestic disturbance on the east side of Pine Bluff Friday morning resulted in the arrest of a woman who allegedly cut a man with a knife.

Police were called to 2308 Belle Meade Drive where they met Laswanta Johnson, 28, and the male, who was not identified, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing Monday for Johnson.

Detective Charles Harrison reported that the man said he had gone into the house to get a phone charger when Johnson went to the kitchen, got a knife, and cut him.

Kizer said police reported that the man had cuts to his hands and face, and scratches, and Johnson had a prior conviction for misdemeanor domestic battery in 2009.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $5,000 bond for Johnson after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with second offense third-degree domestic battery, a felony.

Judge Kearney also ordered Johnson to have no contact with the alleged victim, and told her to come back to court Oct. 29.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Johnson.
