A report that shots were being fired in the area of West Pullen and North Birch streets Friday night resulted in the arrest of a man who was allegedly shooting a handgun that had been reported stolen in Rogers.
Larry Moten, 41, was allegedly intoxicated at the time, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing for Moten on Tuesday.
Detective Sam Atkinson said in a probable-cause affidavit that witnesses told police Moten was firing shots into the air, and when police checked Moten, they found a .40-caliber handgun in his right pocket.
Kizer said officers also found a bag containing suspected marijuana, and when officers checked the serial number of the gun, they found that it had been reported stolen.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25,000 cash-only bond for Moten, who Kizer said has a pending charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm, after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with theft by receiving and felon in possession of a firearm.
Moten was told to come back to court July 9.
