Report of armed disturbance leads to drug arrest

A report of a possible armed disturbance early Friday morning on the west side of Pine Bluff resulted in the arrest of a woman on a drug-related charge.

Carla Jones, 29, was taken into custody after police reported seeing her drop something in a ditch. Police reported that when they checked the area, they found a bag containing a small amount of suspected cocaine.

Vice and Narcotics Detective Mario Brown said in a probable-cause affidavit that police were sent to the area of West 11th Avenue and Apple Street at 5:25 a.m. to investigate a report that a woman in a car had pointed a gun at another woman.

Brown said in the affidavit that the alleged victim gave police a clothing description of the suspect and after officers found the car empty, they began searching the area and located Jones, who was wearing clothing that matched the description given by the alleged victim.

They did not locate a gun, and Brown said in the affidavit that Jones was not interviewed because she had been drinking.

Jones also arrested was on a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear in court.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond on the drug-related allegation and told Jones to come back to court July 11.

Jones said she would hire her own attorney.
