Redfield man arrested on fourth offense DWI

A Redfield man who had been convicted of three prior DWI offenses was arrested Sunday and could be charged with a fourth offense.

Carl Smith, 54, was taken into custody after Redfield officer Jason Anzaldra tried to stop the vehicle Smith was driving for not having a working license plate light.

Redfield Detective Terri Patterson reported that Smith refused to stop and continued driving for seven miles before pulling up to a house in the 500 block of Stagecoach Road.

In his report, Anzaldra said he smelled an odor of intoxicants on Smith’s breath and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Smith refused to perform any field sobriety tests or take a breath alcohol test.

Patterson reported that Smith’s previous convictions were on July 15, 2008, Jan. 21, 2010, and Sept. 6, 2011.

A $10,000 bond was set for Smith on the allegation.
