Police investigate Wednesday night homicide

Pine Bluff Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting death of a man on the east side of the city Wednesday night.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Michael R. Mallett Jr., 31, who was pronounced dead at 11:23 p.m. in the 2600 block of Cockrill Street.

Kelley said the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. The body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory Thursday morning for an autopsy.

Police Capt. Greg Shapiro said Mallett’s body was found inside a vehicle after police received a report that a person had been shot at 10:24 p.m.

The slaying was the 15th of the year in Jefferson County and the 14th inside the Pine Bluff city limits.

No arrests have been made and anyone with information should contact the Detective Division at 870-730-2090.

All calls will be kept confidential and a reward is available for information leading to an arrest.
