Police investigate Friday night shooting

Pine Bluff police are asking for help in locating the person or persons responsible for a shooting incident Friday night in the 800 block of West 8th Avenue.

Lt. Denise Richardson said a male who was not immediately identified was shot in the upper body and was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The incident was reported at approximately 11 p.m. and when officers arrived, found several homes and two vehicles had been struck by bullets. Richardson said no suspects were in custody late Friday night and an investigation was continuing. Anyone with information should call the Detective Division at 730-2090 and all calls will be kept confidential.

In a non-related incident, Richardson said police were called to Pine Bluff High School Friday afternoon to investigate a report that a student allegedly had a gun on campus.

When Officer Jasmine Womack started to search the student, he ran out of his jacket, which did contain a loaded firearm.

Richardson said the student’s mother turned him in and he was taken to the juvenile detention center pending further investigation.

No students were injured in the incident and no shots were fired.
