Police arrest another suspect in school burglary

A continuing investigation by Pine Bluff police into a burglary at Coleman School on June 12 has resulted in the arrest of another suspect.

Markless Hawthorne, 18, was identified from surveillance video as the person who allegedly took basketballs from a storage area at the school, Detective Mike Sweeney said in a probable cause affidavit.

Hawthorne also allegedly tried to use an item of clothing to wipe the door knob of the door into the storage area.

Sweeney said the investigation has identified four adults and at least 10 juveniles who were involved in the incident and several of them remain at large.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $5,000 bond for Hawthorne, who Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said had no prior convictions or pending charges, after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with commercial burglary and theft of property.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Hawthorne.
