A Pine Bluff man was shot to death Thursday afternoon on the east side of the city, the first homicide of the year.
The victim was identified as Roy Haltiwanger, 20, of Pine Bluff, who died at Jefferson Regional Medical Center after he was taken there by ambulance.
Haltiwanger was pronounced dead at 4:12 p.m. by a doctor in the emergency room. The cause of death was listed as apparent multiple gunshot wounds, according to Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley.
Kelley said the body will be sent to the state Crime Laboratory at Little Rock Friday for an autopsy.
The shooting occurred in the 300 block of East 21st Avenue — just east of Georgia Street — and police were just beginning their investigation Thursday afternoon.
Pine Bluff Police Department spokesman Lt. David Price said Haltiwanger was found between two houses at 314 and 316 E. 21st Ave. after police were called to investigate a report of multiple gunshot wounds and a man down.
Crime scene technicians were still processing the scene Thursday afternoon and were marking, photographing and then collecting multiple shell casings from the middle of the street.
No arrests had been made and anyone with information is asked to contact the Detective Division at 730-2090. All calls will be kept confidential and a reward is available for information leading to an arrest.

The homicide was the first since Nov. 16, 2012, when Edward Weston, 54, was shot after what police said was an ongoing family dispute.
Benetta Green, 29, was arrested and will be charged with first-degree murder while Ruthie Green, 55, and Kateisha Green, 34, will be charged with burglary. Ruthie Green and Weston were related.
There were 18 homicides last year in Pine Bluff and Jefferson County, 17 of them inside the Pine Bluff city limits.
