Pine Bluff man killed in Thursday night accident

A 22-year-old Pine Bluff man was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 530 Thursday night.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley identified the victim as Anthony C. Nelson Jr., who was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:25 p.m., by Chief Deputy Coroner David Westbrook.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Nelson was a passenger in a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Traci D. Dorn of Pine Bluff, that was northbound on the interstate when the vehicle veered across the northbound shoulder, entered a ditch, and struck a tree. Dorn’s age was not listed.

State Police Cpl. Marlon Briggs reported that Dorn was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

The accident was reported at the 29-mile marker, north of the Arkansas 104 exit, at 6:36 p.m.

Briggs said in the preliminary report that it was raining and the roadway was wet at the time of the accident.

The death was the 93rd on the state’s highways this year.
