Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a man for allegedly grabbing his wife and dragging her down a driveway during an argument Monday.
Shawn Mayer, 35, was charged with second degree domestic battery after deputies found Mayer outside the residence in the 4300 block of Highway 54 in Pine Bluff around 1 p.m. Monday.
Mayer directed deputies to his wife inside the residence in need of medical attention, he said.
JCSO Detective Jennifer Carr reported that Mayer’s wife told deputies she and her husband got into an argument after she went to check the mail and she returned to find the door locked.
Carr reported that Mayer’s wife told deputies that she began to pack some clothes in a suitcase and that Mayer then grabbed her bag and pulled the bag and her arm in an effort to put the suitcase back inside the house.
Deputies observed scratches over his wife’s left shoulder.
Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Mayer after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with second degree domestic battery.
Mayer said that he would hire his own attorney and Bridgforth told him to have no contact with his wife until the case is settled and to return to court Sept. 26.
