Pine Bluff man arrested after reported hitting, robbing victim

A report that a man was unconscious at a bar on Dollarway Road early Saturday morning led to the arrest of another man who allegedly hit the victim then robbed him.

Chad Russell, 21, was identified by several witnesses who told police Russell had hit Silvestre Reyes, 33, from behind, knocking Reyes unconscious, Detective Jerry Lambert said in a probable cause affidavit presented in court Monday.

Lambert reported that police were sent to Buffy’s Bar and Grill at 2 a.m. Saturday where employees told officers Russell had beaten up Reyes and robbed him.

Reyes was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment and when he was interviewed by police, said he and Russell had gone to the bar together after Reyes stopped at an automatic teller machine to get some cash. When Reyes started to leave, he said Russell hit him from behind, taking cash, a wallet and cell phone.

Russell was arrested later Saturday and reportedly told police he and Reyes had been at the bar drinking and he was “put out for fighting with other customers.”

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25,000 bond for Russell after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with robbery.

Bridgforth also ordered Russell to have no contact with Reyes until the case is settled and told him to come back to court Jan. 14.

Russell said he would hire his own attorney.
