PB woman accused of shooting man in eye

A Pine Bluff woman was arrested Tuesday at a residence in the 4200 block of West Fourth Avenue after Pine Bluff police officers allegedly found a man at the residence suffering from a gunshot wound to his right eye.

Detective Steven Rucker said in a probable cause affidavit that Lavern Gregory, 56, told officers that she shot the man, who lives with her, after he threatened to kill her with a knife, which was found next to the man when officers arrived. Responding officers reported that because of the man’s condition, they could not determine if the knife was in the man’s possession or had been placed beside him after the fact.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25,000 bond for Gregory after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with first-degree domestic battery.

Bridgforth also ordered Gregory to have no contact with the man until the case is settled.

Gregory said that she would hire her own attorney and was told to return to court Aug. 13.
