PB man charged with 1st-degree battery

An anonymous tip to the Pine Bluff Police Department led officers to arrest a Pine Bluff man Wednesday in connection with a July 12 shooting incident that sent a man to Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

PBPD Detective April Tirado said in a probable-cause affidavit that Kenneth Shirley, 41, was allegedly identified as the person who shot the victim at the victim’s residence in the 7100 block of Jeffcoat Road. Tirado said that the victim allegedly told investigators that Shirley was the one who shot him.

Tirado said that Shirley allegedly admitted that he was at the Jeffcoat Road residence at the time of the shooting and that he went there to recover stolen narcotics and money.

On Friday, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $100,000 bond for Shirley after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with first degree battery.

Shirley asked for time to hire his own attorney and was told to report back to court Aug. 28.

Shirley was ordered to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled.
