PB man arrested for allegedly assaulting girlfriend

A Pine Bluff man was arrested Wednesday night after he allegedly physically assaulted his girlfriend, who is pregnant.

Darius Bryant, 24, also allegedly broke a window on a vehicle that the woman was trying to leave in, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing for Bryant on Friday.

Detective Marcia Oliver said in a probable cause affidavit that police were sent to the 800 block of South Chestnut Street where the alleged victim, who said she is seven months pregnant, reported that Bryant had hit her, and the police report indicated that officers saw physical injuries to the woman.

Kizer said Bryant received injuries to his hand and was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Because the alleged victim is pregnant, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney ruled that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with second-degree domestic battery, and with criminal mischief for allegedly breaking the glass on the vehicle.

Kearney set a $10,000 bond for Bryant, and ordered him to have no contact with the alleged victim until the case is settled.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Bryant.
