PB man arrested after allegedly choking former girlfriend

A Pine Bluff man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly choked his former girlfriend, who is pregnant.

Brandon Gibson, 22, admitted that he knew the woman was pregnant, Detective Richard Wegner reported in a probable cause affidavit.

The female victim said she and Gibson had gotten involved in a verbal altercation about a posting he had made of Facebook, and that led to a physical altercation, according to the affadavit.

Wegner reported that the victim said Gibson put his hands around her neck and choked her, and police reported seeing minor injuries to the victim’s face and neck.

The victim told police she and Gibson had broken up and she had gone to his house on West 17th Avenue to pick up her belongings when the altercation occurred, the affadavit said.

When he was interviewed, Gibson said he and the victim had been involved in a relationship since October, 2012, and he knew that she was four months pregnant, Wegner reported.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 bond for Gibson after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with third-degree domestic battery, a Class D felony because the alleged victim is pregnant.

Gibson also was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim, and told to come back to court Feb. 22.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Gibson.
