PB man, 71, accused in ax attack

A Pine Bluff man was taken into custody Tuesday evening after an officer with the Pine Bluff Police Department reported seeing him assault another man with a metal ax.

A PBPD detective said in a probable-cause affidavit that Sgt. Robert Henderson arrested Henry Brothers, 71, after responding to a reported disturbance at a residence in the 1200 block of South Fir Street and saw Brothers advance on another man with a metal ax. Neal said Henderson reported that the victim began to struggle with Brothers in an attempt to wrest the ax out of his hands — which he was eventually successful in doing.

Neal said Brothers was taken into custody after Henderson separated the two men.

On Wednesday, Pine Buff District Judge John Kearney set a $50,000 bond for Brothers after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault.

Brothers was ordered to have no contact with the victim and was told to report back to court Aug. 27.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Brothers.
