A Monticello man was killed and a second injured in a one-vehicle accident Monday morning in Drew County.
According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Blake Bayird, 19, was northbound on old Highway 13 when he reportedly drove off the roadway and overcorrected, causing the 2005 Chevrolet truck he was driving to slide sideways and strike a tree before ending up in a ditch.
A passenger in the truck, Scott Lansdale, 17, also of Monticello, was injured and taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center inPine Bluff for treatment.
The accident was reported at 3:45 a.m. and according to Trooper First Class Matt Outlaw, the weather was clear and the roadway dry at the time.
The death was the 177th recorded on the state’s highways so far this year.
