A Jefferson County man who is on probation was arrested Saturday after police reported finding a gun inside a vehicle he was driving.
Sidney Hayes, 27, who was placed on probation in 2o11 on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threatening, fleeing and endangering the welfare of a minor, was taken into custody after police in the area of 6003 Windham St., heard a vehicle spinning its tires, Detective Larry Gailey said in a probable-cause affidavit.
According to the affidavit, officers saw Hayes reaching toward the back seat, and said he appeared nervous when they questioned him.
A .380-caliber handgun was found in the area where Hayes was reaching, Gailey said in the affidavit.
Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $25,000 bond for Hayes after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Kearney appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent Hayes, and told him to come back to court June 17.
