Man on parole arrested on alleged drug charges

A parolee was arrested Thursday after police found suspected marijuana in the vehicle he was driving.

Johnathan Gonder, 42, was stopped for making an improper turn onto West 28th Avenue and when police activated the blue lights on their vehicle, Gonder allegedly continued driving for several blocks before pulling over, Detective Richard McCorvy said in a probable cause affidavit.

McCorvy reported that there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and investigators found a backpack with several bags of suspected marijuana and a set of digital scales. The suspected marijuana weighed 23.6 grams.

At the request of Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $25,000 cash-only bond for Gonder after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gonder said he would hire his own attorney.
