A Pine Bluff man who was being held at the adult detention center on other charges will have to post a $25,000 bond to be released after he allegedly attacked and beat a jail deputy Saturday.
Calvin Deshaun Phillips, 27, allegedly struck deputy Deferia Lewis several times in the face and had to be pulled off her by other deputies, Sheriff’s Investigator John Bean said in a probable-cause affidavit presented in court Monday.
Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said Lewis was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where she received treatment.
Bean said in the affidavit that Phillips was allegedly shouting obscenities when Lewis went to his cell to try and calm him and Phillips allegedly attacked her.
Kizer said Phillips is on felony probation and he was ordered by Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth to have no contact with Lewis until the case is settled.
Bridgforth set a $25,000 bond for Philips after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with second-degree battery.
The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Phillips, and he was told to come back to court June 10.
