Investigation into missing money leads to arrest

An investigation into money that was allegedly missing from bank deposits of the Arkansas Cancer Institute over a seven-month period led to the arrest of an employee of the institute.

Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Mike Sweeney said in a probable-cause affidavit that Susan Ferrell, 43 ,of Lincoln County, was responsible for adding up the money that was collected in the office and making the bank deposits.

During a court hearing for Ferrell Friday, Deputy Prosecutor Jill Reed said the firm reported that $5,297.24 was missing.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 bond for Ferrell after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with theft of property.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Ferrell.
