Infant dies in west Pine Bluff

A 2-month-old was pronounced dead at a residence Friday morning after efforts by first responders to revive the infant were unsuccessful.

No names were released by police Friday. The infant’s body was sent to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of death, according to Pine Bluff Police Department spokesman Capt. Greg Shapiro.

Police were called at about 10 a.m. to the 3800 block of Chapel Heights Drive. The 22-year-old mother told police she woke up and discovered the baby was not breathing and was unresponsive.

Shapiro said the infant was pronounced dead despite CPR and other life-saving efforts by PBPD officers, Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services medics, Emergency Ambulance Service Inc. emergency medical technicians and Jefferson Regional Medical Center staff.
