Forged insurance card leads to arrest

A Pine Bluff woman was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly presented a forged insurance card during an appearance in Jefferson County district Court.

Monique Jones, 29, later told a sheriff’s investigator she “called her insurance company and was told she didn’t have insurance, and didn’t know why she presented the document,” the investigator said.

Investigator Kaleisha Wise reported that Jones presented the document to Judge Kim Bridgforth showing that the insurance on her vehicle expired on June 14, 2013, but a check with the insurance company indicated that the insurance had expired June 14, 2012.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said the court later received a fax from the insurance company verifying that Jones’ insurance had expired.

Bridgforth set a $1,500 bond for Jones after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with second-degree forgery.

Jones, who Kizer said had no prior felony charges or convictions, said she would hire her own attorney and was told to come back to court April 17.
