SHERIDAN — A body found in a burning house near Sheridan Feb. 3 was identified Friday as a homicide victim and officers of the Grant County Sheriff’s Department are seeking help from the public in solving the murder.
Officers held a press conference Friday to identify the victim as 46-year-old Danny Joe Stivers, resident of the house at 11122 U.S. 167, south of Sheridan.
Chief Deputy Sheriff Pete Roberts said investigators had determined that Stivers was the victim of foul play, but declined to identify the evidence sheriff’s department and Arkansas State Police personnel had uncovered.
Investigators believe that robbery was not involved and “it was not a random crime,” Roberts said, adding that officers had identified “several persons of interest” during their investigation. He would not elaborate.
Roberts said investigators are asking for help from the public, adding that anyone with information about the homicide and fire to call the sheriff’s department at (870) 942-2101.
Members of the Calvert Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm shortly after 8:30 p.m. Feb. 3 and said they learned upon arrival someone was in the structure. Fire Chief Everette Watson said Stivers body was found about eight-feet from the door.
