A Jefferson County man was arrested Wednesday on charges of aggravated assault after an alleged fight with his brother over their father’s estate escalated to the man pointing a gun at his sibling.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Mickey Buffkin said in a probable-cause affidavit that Phillip Branch, 50, allegedly began to exchange blows with his brother at a residence in the 8800 block of Sulphur Springs Road on Wednesday evening before the men’s sister intervened.
Buffkin said Branch then went into another room and returned with a .22 caliber pistol that he allegedly pointed at the victim’s face.
On Friday, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $50,000 bond for Branch after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault.
Branch asked for time to hire his own attorney and was told to report back to court Aug. 28.
Branch was ordered to have no contact with his brother until the case is settled.
