Drugs found after suspect arrested on shoplifting allegation

A reported shoplifting suspect will have to post a $25,000 bond to be released from the county detention center after drugs and digital scales were found in her purse and the police car she had been taken to the detention center in.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge Racheal Rickey, 30, of White Hall with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rickey was arrested after police were sent Friday to USA Drug at 2515 West 28th Avenue to investigate a report that Rickey was confronted by a security guard who saw her put items in her purse.

Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said police reported that Rickey was “acting nervous and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.”

Detective Marquis Blake reported that Rickey was taken to the adult detention center where a set of digital scales were found in her purse, and when police checked the back seat of the car Rickey had been transported in, they located a container with a crystal-like substance in it that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Rickey reportedly told police she “wasn’t trying to steal anything and put the items in her purse because she did not have a basket.”

Kizer said Rickey had no pending charges or prior felony convictions but had been charged with a “couple of failures to appear in 2009.”

Rickey said she would hire her own attorney and was told to come back to court Dec. 31.
