Dispute at convenience store leads to forgery arrest

A reported disturbance at a convenience store Saturday resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly tried to make a purchase using a counterfeit bill.

Jaquan Cayton, 24, allegedly got into a dispute with the owner of the Kwik Check Food Mart at 800 N. Bryant St., Deputy Prosecutor Karres Manning said during a court hearing for Cayton Monday.

Detective Jerry Lambert said in a probable-cause affidavit that Cayton had six other counterfeit bills in his possession when he was arrested.

Manning said Cayton has drug-related charges pending in circuit court.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 bond for Cayton after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with forgery.

Cayton was told to come back to court Aug. 15.
