Convicted felon arrested on gun charge

A Pine Bluff man who was a convicted felon was arrested Monday after he reportedly admitted having a handgun and firing several shots on the west side of town.

Jamar Williams, 23, told police he had thrown the gun away and efforts to locate it were unsuccessful, Detective Sam Atkinson said in a probable cause affidavit.

Atkinson reported that Williams and his girlfriend were sitting in a vehicle in the 3200 block of Daffodil Street when several gunshots were fired at the vehicle.

Williams reportedly said that the girlfriend ran away and he returned fire with a .9-millimeter handgun in the direction he thought the shots were coming from.

Atkinson reported that police recovered four spent shell casings in the passenger seat of the vehicle and three more in the front floorboard of the car.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $50,000 bond for Williams after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Bridgforth told Williams to come back to court Feb. 6.
