A $50,000 cash-only bond was set Friday for a Pine Bluff man who allegedly pointed a gun at another man Wednesday afternoon.
Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond for Daniel Benton, 23, after ruling that prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with aggravated assault.
Detective Brad Vilches said in a probable cause affidavit that police were called to the 1700 block of East Circle Drive, where the victim said he was sitting in his yard when a man later identified as Benton walked through his yard. When the told Benton to stop walking through the yard, Benton allegedly turned and pointed a gun at him.
Vilches said the victim told police that Benton said “Old School, if you don’t shut up, I got something for you.”
Benton also allegedly told the victim “If you call the cops, you can’t live here no more,” Vilches said in the affidavit.
Police located Benton at 18th Avenue and West Circle Drive and brought him back to the scene where the alleged victim identified him.
Records at the prosecutor’s office showed that Benton is on probation after being convicted of terroristic threatening and possession of a handgun on school property. He also has a drug-related charge pending.
Benton was told to come back to court June 21.
